Scientist, Meteorologist, & Educator
James Russell
I currently work as an Atmospheric Scientist for Idaho Power where I produce forecasts for power distribution,
fire weather, and cloud seeding operations, as well as perform a variety of data science tasks.
Formerly, I worked as a scientist and educator for the COMET Program at the University Corporation
for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and was a research scientist at a number of different universities. At
the COMET Program, I researched and developed expertise in earth-system
science topics, gathered and visualized meteorological and climate data sets,
built training products for the earth-system science workforce, and managed
a variety of program areas and individual projects.
In my academic research roles, I developed code, analyzed a variety of large weather and climate
data sets, ran weather forecast models for research, managed a research group, and taught
classes.
